The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel Review
The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is the expansionist dream of Sonny, and it's making more claims on his time than he has available, considering his imminent marriage to the love of his life, Sunaina.
A little like Love Actually for the retired, The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is a fun, feelgood rom-com with a cracking ensemble cast.
Those who saw the first one will recognise many familiar faces in this sequel: Sonny (Dev Patel) is looking to expand his business now that his original hotel for the 'elderly and beautiful' is prospering, but his preoccupation means his engagement to Sunaina (Tina Desai) is thriving somewhat less, especially when the smarmy but handsome Kushal (Shazad Latif) shows up on the scene.
Meanwhile residents Evelyn (Judi Dench) and Doug (Bill Nighy) have yet to take their blossoming friendship to the next level, a matter complicated further when his estranged wife (Penelope Wilton) pops back unannounced. Glamorous Madge (Celia Imrie) finds herself torn between two rich suitors, while frisky Norman (Ronald Pickup) and Carol (Diana Hardcastle) struggle with monogamy, and a dashing new arrival (Richard Gere, no less) takes a shine to Sonny's mum. With all these romantic entanglements, it falls to the hotel's co-manager Muriel (Maggie Smith) to dispense wisdom - and wisecracks - in her own blunt way. But will they all live happily ever after?
The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is coming to Curzon Cinemas on Friday 27th February.
