In Tang Dynasty China, skilled assassin Nie Yinniang travels across the country to murder corrupted government officials under orders of her master Jaxin. But Yinniang fails her task by showing mercy for some of her targets and sparing their lives. Jaxin decides to punish her by sending her to northern China to kill her cousin Tian Ji'an, who was also her betrothed. Yinniang is confronted with her troubled past (and the soldiers sent to kill her) in this breath-taking period film.
This stunning new take on wuxia film won renowned director Hou Hsiao-Hsien the Best Director prize at Cannes Film Festival in 2015. The Assassin stars celebrated actress Shu Qi in the role of Yanniang.
