"Look, maybe we could do something else together. Mrs. Robinson, would you like to go to a movie?"
What a great idea, Benjamin. And do we have the movie for you? This Friday, 50 years after its original release, Mike Nichol's era defining The Graduate returns to screens in a tremendous 4K restoration.
Starring Dustin Hoffman in a career making turn, The Graduate tells the story of disaffected young Benjamin Braddock, a recent college graduate who has returned to his parent's home for a summer spent aimlessly whiling away the days, delaying the onset of adult life. He's been to school, he's studied hard, and now he faces a life void of deeper meaning, a life of... plastics. Benjamin's search for a sense of purpose leads him into a terribly complicated love-triangle with his parents' friend, the famous Mrs. Robinson, and her daughter, Elaine.
Featuring a hugely popular soundtrack, comprising a number of hit songs by Simon and Garfunkel, the film continues to strike a chord with both critics and audiences. Its themes of youthful ennui have proven timeless, and its stylish aesthetic and satirical humour have marked it out as a classic of renewed relevance.
The film has never looked better than in this new 4K restoration and, to celebrate, we've seven bundles of The Graduate goodies to give away to some lucky film fans.
